Pick n Pay launched its newest
store in South Africa with the opening of the new Caledon store in the Overberg
today.
The Caledon store is 1680m² and
has a dedicated liquor store comprising 193m². General Manager of the Western
Cape Jarett van Vuuren said that the new store had provided jobs for
approximately 111 members of staff, 41 permanent, 25 of whom are managers or
supervisors, with the balance being made up of variable time employees.
“The majority of the staff comes
from the Caledon community,” said Van Vuuren, “and we are pleased that the
development of this store has opened up the opportunity for employment.”
The store will provide a range of
products that have been carefully selected, according to Van Vuuren, so that an
ideal combination of product, price, and services was achieved to cater for the
tastes and pockets of this unique community.
In terms of produce, customers
can look forward to the widest offering of the freshest fruit and vegetables
daily, while the butchery will boast a special gourmet counter with a vast
selection of meats. Also on offer is Country-Reared pork, farmed just down the
road in Botrivier.
The deli section offers shoppers
both hot and cold foods sections; and the bakery will be stocked with an
extensive range of baked goods and confectionary. Sushi lovers too are in for
treat – delicious freshly made sushi will be on offer every day of the week.
And for added convenience, when checking out, shoppers can make their
third-party payments at the till at the same time.
Unique to Pick n Pay is the smart shopper card,
which shoppers can use every time they make a purchase at the store – the card
offers Pick n Pay’s loyal customers points on every rand they spend. Once
you’ve accumulated more than 1 000 points, they can be converted at the
smart shopper kiosk by transferring them onto your smart shopper card, where
they can be used to pay for the purchase of any items in-store.
A dedicated PnP liquor store is
located just outside the entrance to the store in the new centre.
Store Manager Paul Hutton and his
team are raring to go. “We’ve gearing up for this moment and now that it’s
here, it’s all systems go. We’re been in planning phase for all these months
and we’re ready to get out there and engage with our shoppers face to face and
make sure we give them the best possible shopping experience – essentially
everything the Pick n Pay brand stands for.”
